The ABC Group Joins the SDG Media Compact

Our policy is to further accelerate Group promotion of CSR, disseminating the SDGs in an easy-to-understand manner in the broadcasting and related businesses.

On August 28, 2020, Asahi Broadcasting Group Holdings Corporation joined the SDG Media Compact, in which the United Nations calls for cooperation from the world's news media on the SDGs, goals aimed at solving global social issues.

Along with the holdings company, this means the ABC Group, including ABC TV, ABC Radio, sky-A, and other companies, also joined the Compact.

Our policy is to harness this new membership as an opportunity to further accelerate our operations solving social issues in keeping with the times through Group CSR, using content production, broadcasting and other activities to help achieve the SDGs.

SDG MEDIA COMPACT

[Purpose of Membership and Action Outline]

  • As a media-centric group company, we seek to contribute to the resolution of various social issues on a global scale; through the content we offer, such as broadcast programs and events, we will convey the existence and contents of the SDGs widely and in an easy-to-understand manner throughout society.

  • By joining the Compact, we will continue our initiatives in the belief that we can provide greater contribution to the 17 targets of the SDGs in order to deepen the ABC Group's own CSR activities.

ABC Group and SDGs

All 193 members of the United Nations, including Japan, adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at the UN Sustainable Development Summit held in 2015 at the UN Headquarters in New York. The agenda consists of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 associated targets covering global social issues such as poverty, the environment and sanitation, human rights, climate change, and education along with challenges to be resolved and a vision to be achieved by 2030.

The SDGs are a universal endeavor involving the entire world, developed and developing countries alike, at both the national and regional levels, pledging to “leave no one behind.”

As a media outlet, we hope to contribute to the resolution of diverse global social issues, and to this end will inform society broadly about the presence and details of the SDGs through the ABC Group’s broadcasting content. And as a corporate citizen seeking to conduct ever more significant CSR activities, we will maintain our efforts to contribute further to the achievement of the SDGs, exploring new ways to do so.

The SDGs – Beyond CSR Initiatives –

The ABC Group CSR Policy forms the basis of the group’s Business Philosophy and expresses our commitment to achieve sustainable societies. As a corporate media group, we will continue to contribute to the achievement of the goals of the SDGs beyond the CSR activities we conduct through our regular businesses.
